Straight Line Motion and Friction

We all know about friction; it always slows us down. Sliders try to minimize the frictional forces by wearing special clothing and designing special sleds.

A slider can only raise their head about 5 degrees from a totally supine, or laid back, position. Any higher would slow them down due to air resistance. So strong neck, back and trunk muscles are very, and sliders work on them in training.

At Lillehammer, careful studies were done to understand the differences in performance between winners and losers on various parts of the course. As part of this study, researchers measured accelerations of the sleds in various locations.
