Through funding from NASA, faculty at Montana State University and classroom teachers from across the nation have developed an extensive library of on-line and interactive K-12 science education materials for teaching astronomy. Closely aligned with the NRC National Science Education Standards, these web based lessons make maximum use of exciting on-line NASA resources, data, and images. In addition to classroom-ready materials using contemporary teaching strategies, CERES has developed several on-line NASA data search engines and two graduate level distance learning courses, available over the internet to K-12 teachers.

There currently are twenty K-12 interactive astronomy lessons developed and on-line, with more to follow.  It is the desire of the NASA CERES Project Staff to field test each lesson in a K-12 classroom.  Educators participating in classroom testing these materials will provide specific feedback about them.  Teachers from across the nation  will help shape these materials into user friendly, standards based, inquiry driven activities.

The current field test time-line is from January through April 1999.  The experiences of already active field test teachers have already been presented at the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 1998, and at the Supercomputing '98 Conference in Orlando, Florida, November, 1998.
