CERRO TOLOLO OBSERVATORY
 
The Cerro Tololo Astronomical
Observatory is a complex of astronomical telescopes and instruments. It
is located in Chile, about 500km north of Santiago and about 75km east
of La Serena, at an altitude of 2200 meters. The observatory site was chosen
in 1963 after a three-year search. Here is a sky unaffected by city lights
and with a very transparent atmosphere, which combine to create one of
the best sites in the world for astronomical observations.
