Course Description: The lives of Prehistoric peoples of the Western United States have been revealed by investigations of archaeological sites in Montana. These sites, in a variety of locations, range in antiquity from 11,000 to a few hundred years ago. The instructor will draw on his own archaeological experiences in the Bridger Mountains, Gallatin Valley, and elsewhere at bison kill sites, campsites, and other types of archaeological sites. We will also learn about the most important and most useful archaeological field and laboratory methods. Participants will discuss readings selected by the instructor and should plan on 1-2 hours of preparation per week. Slide presentations and possibly a field trip led by the instructor will complement readings.
Meeting Place and Times: Wednesdays, 1:30-3:30 pm, Museum of the Rockies
