Course Description: For almost 100 years the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway was the vital
transportation link between Butte (the mining community) and Anaconda
(the smelting community). Today, the train runs again as the Copper King Express,
an excursion train between these two historic Montana mining cities.
The Wonderlust Sidetrip will leave Butte at 10 AM on July 20 and travel to Anaconda.
The passenger train goes through the Silver Bow Canyon and other spectacular
areas which are only accessible by train. In Anaconda, Dale Martin, adjunct history
professor at MSU, will lecture on the history of this railroad and the general area.
Anaconda’s Art in the Park Festival will be held the same day and admission is included in the ticket. The train will return to Butte at 5 PM. Seats are being held until June 1.
Please bring a picnic lunch OR purchase a meal at Art in the Park in Anaconda with over 19 food vendors and 75 arts & crafts booths. Available food will range from hamburgers and hotdogs to pizza and tamales and more.
Registration is now wait list only. Please contact the Office of Continuing Education at (406) 994-6683 to be added to the list.
