Course Description: We will read and discuss traditional sacred stories form Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. All religions have sacred images of gender-the monotheistic religions imagine god as masculine while other traditions have both masculine and feminine gods, or gods that can be both. We will explore how various sacred images of gender influence ideas of the divine, ideas about what it means to be human, and ideas regarding the natural world. Class format: There will be a moderate amount of reading for each class session. No prerequisite knowledge is required for this class.
Meeting Place and Times: 6 Weeks, Mondays starting January 7 and ending February 11 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM.
