Course Description: Wonderlust will again offer its popular Wonderlust Book Discussion Programs beginning Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 and continuing through May 2009.
These programs are made possible by the Montana Committee for the Humanities. The Committee is the book sponsor and provides copies of all books for loan at no charge. Professor and MSU librarian Jan Zauha will be the discussion leader for each program. Jan has a master’s degree in both literature and library science and leads the monthly Friends of MSU Libraries Book Discussion Group. Jan makes each discussion program a lively, informative and interesting program. We are fortunate to be able to have Jan as our discussion leader.
Attendance at all sessions is not necessary in order to participate, but it is encouraged in order to enhance the individual’s experience of the literature and enjoyment of the discussions. Each session will be limited to 25 participants. The books for each session will be available on loan at no cost at the offices of MSU Extended University (204 Culbertson Hall, MSU campus). The books are generally available for loan 3-4 weeks prior to the session, and all members will be notified when the books are available. The notice will contain a brief description of the book.
The eight books in the program have been selected by a group of English and literature professors who are Wonderlust members. They have been chosen to provide the participants a stimulating and enjoyable reading experience and discussion. The books will be chosen from the following list, depending on their availability from the Montana Committee for the Humanities:
Beowulf by Seamus Heaney
The Plot Against America by Phillip Roth
The Doctor Stories by William Carlos Williams
The Indian Lawyer by James Welch
Howard’s End by E.M. Forster
Iron John by Robert Bly
Montana 1948 by Larry Watson
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver
