Course Description: This course will explore men’s development and critically examine contemporary and traditional concepts of masculinity. Students will gain an enhanced understanding of men’s gender development and the impact of gender on men’s identity and social interactions. Focus will include mechanisms of masculine socialization, men’s health, sexuality , relationships, trauma & abuse, power & violence, and the intersection of masculinity & culture. This is a co-convening course. Graduates may enroll in HDCO 580-01.

Instructor(s): Brian Kassar, Psy.D.. Dr. Kassar's area of expertise lies in providing clinical and preventive services to men. He has extensively studied men's development and is a member of APA's Division 51: Pyschology of Men & Masculinity. He works full-time at MSU's counseling center, and does violence prevention work with the MSU VOICE Center
Prerequisites: Introduction to Psychology or Lifespan Human Development or Social Psychology or Human Sexuality
Cost: $596.70
The cost of the course assumes that you are taking only online courses from Montana State University (MSU) and/or specially designated courses through MSU Extended University during the semester that the course is offered. If you are also taking regular face-to-face courses from Montana State University, other costs may apply. Montana State University charges a $3.25 per credit hour computer fee for this course. (The fee is $3.15 per credit hour during summer session 2009.) MSU also charges a $30 registration fee per student per semester.
