Quizzes/Surveys
Tool I
Quizzes are tests
that your students take and submit online. Quiz questions can be multiple choice,
matching, calculated, short answer, and paragraph questions. All quiz questions,
except ones in paragraph format, can be automatically graded by the system.
Those grades can then be returned to your students using Quizzes/Surveys.
Instructors are
able to specify how and when students have access to quizzes and how students
are able to view the results of quizzes. Additionally, instructors are able
to grade or re-grade student submissions and override quiz grades for completed
quizzes.
Taking
a Quiz
WebCT will only
allow the instructor to "preview" the quiz. In order to take a quiz,
you will need to be logged in as a student. Once logged in with your student
account, click on the Quiz Tool icon to get to the list of
quizzes that are available. Click the name of the quiz to take or preview the
quiz.
WebCT presents
the student with a list of instructions. Once ready, the student clicks the
"Begin quiz" button.
- Question status
is tracked graphically to reflect changed answers.
- Students must
click on "Save Answer" for each response.
- Quizzes include
a dynamically updated quiz time providing students with an accurate gauge
of their progress.
- After answering
questions, the student must click on "Finish" to
submit their quiz for grading. Students are then reminded about answers they
changed but did not save.

Creating
a Question Database category
The Quiz tool contains
a Question Database. This is the storage area for all quiz questions.
All new questions must first be added to the database before they can be used
in a quiz. Questions can be used simultaneously in multiple quizzes.
As a designer,
you create categories to store and organize the questions in the question Database.

Tool
- Under the breadcrumbs,
click Question Database. The Question Database screen
appears
- In the Actions
frame, under Options: Category, click Create category.
- In the Create
category screen, enter a title

Adding
Questions to the Question Database
You can create
any of the following types of questions to add to your quiz:
- Multiple-choice:
students select either one or multiple correct answers to a question.
- Matching: students
match items in two columns
- Calculated:
students answer a mathematical question. You specify the mathematical formula
and the set of variables, along with a range of values for each variable.
A set of answers is generated for a randomly selected set of variables.
- Short answer:
students enter a word of short phrase, which is then matched against the possible
answers
- Paragraph: students
answer in a longer, essay-type format. The desinger or the teaching assistant
must grade this type of question manually.
