Quizzes/Surveys Tool II
Now that there are questions in the Question Database, it is time to build the quiz.
Adding a Quiz
- From the Homepage, click on the Quiz Tool
- In the Actions frame, under Options, click Create quiz
- Enter the Title for the quiz
- Click Create
Adding Questions to a Quiz
- From the Quizzes/surveys screen, click on the name of your quiz. The Quiz Editor screen appears
- In the Actions frame, under Options, click Add questions. The Question Browser window appears.
- In the table under Name, click the name of your folder to reveal your questions.
- Select the questions that you would like to include in the quiz, then click Add selected at the bottom of the screen. The Quiz Editor screen appears and the questions are added to your quiz.
Allocating Points
You assign point values to questions once they're added to a quiz. This means that you can assign different point values to a question in different quizzes.
- From the Quiz Editor screen, in the Points column, in each of the text boxes enter your point value.
- Click Update total.
Quiz Settings
Using Quiz Settings, you can specify, for example, which students receive the quiz, how long they have to complete it, how many attempts are allowed, and how the results are released to them. You can change settings in the following categories:
- Basic Settings (edit quiz title, question delivery, quiz duration, quiz attempts)
- Availability (allow access/deny access, make available/unavailable based on date and time)
- Selective Release (release to specific students, release based on some factor)
- Security (used for test proctoring)
- Submission (the message students receive when they have submitted the quiz)
- Results (configures how and when student results are displayed)
To access Quiz Settings:
- From the Quiz Editor, click on Edit quiz settings.
- Once the settings are made, click Update to return to the Quiz Editor screen.
Previewing a Quiz
Now that you're finished creating the quiz, you can preview it from the Quiz Editor screen.
- In the Actions frame, under Options, click Preview quiz. A new browser window opens and the quiz appears as it would to a student
- Close the browser window when finished.
Making Grades Available to Students
Students can use Quizzes/Surveys to view their score once the quiz is graded. They can also view their quiz score using My Grades. My Grades is for students use only. As a designer, you must use Manage Students to view student grades.
Grading Quizzes
- From the Homepage, click Quizzes/Surveys
- Under each quiz there are four buttons that deal with quiz results - Submissions, Detail, Reports, Summary
- Click on the Submissions button of the appropriate quiz to enter the Submissions Screen. This is where grading activities occur.
- The Submissions screen provides information each time students take a quiz
- Grade: the student's grade for the quiz as determined by the grade settings
- No.: the number of the attempt at the quiz (usually "1" unless multiple attempts are allowed)
- Score: the students score for the quiz attempt
- Time: the time spent on the quiz attempt
- Status: the quiz may be "Graded", "Ungraded", "In Progress", or "Not Taken"
- You can view a student's quiz responses for a specific attempt by clicking on the hyperlinked number in the "No." column.
Grading Paragraph Questions
WebCT does not grade paragraph questions; this must be done by the Instructor or Teaching Assistant.
- To grade a quiz, click on the Submissions button of the quiz that you want to grade. The Submission screen appears
- Under Submissions, click the hyperlink attempt number of the student to be graded. The Submission Detail screen appears.
- For each paragraph answer, type the grade in the Score text box.
- Type any comments that you may have about the student's response into the Comments text box.
- When you have graded all of the paragraph answers, click Update Grade.
You can follow the same process to override a grades assigned by WebCT or change
a grade previously given.
