The Fundamentals

Displacement

Before the clock starts, the slider pushes off from the handles, moving the sled down the course. The position of the luge changes as time goes by. The term displacement refers to the change in position of the luge in an interval of time. The units used for measurement are meters.

Luge is not just for snow anymore! Street luge is becoming more popular in summer and areas with not much snow.

In the sequence below, we can see a displacement of the luge in each of the images.

We find the displacement by subtracting the value of the earlier position from the value of the later position. The time interval is equal to the later time minus earlier time. Her the time interval is constant at 2.0 seconds. For each pair of successive images in the luge sequence, record the displacement (4) and the time interval (5) in the table.
