You will need the Macromedia Shockwave Flash plug-in!

This site uses Shockwave on every page. Therefore, you must have the Shockwave Flash plug-in to engage in the course. Flash was used to create all of the fun and entertaining Shockwave animation and interactive graphics seen throughout the site.

For information on how to get the Shockwave plug-in, go to Macromedia and download the plug-in.

Possible problems
you may experience

We have tested our pages on both platforms (Mac and PC) and many different machines with excellent success. But, sometimes you may experience some little glitches in how the pages appear on your screen. Below are a few of the known glitches we have experienced and how to correct them.

When a page loads, only about half of the text loads accompanied by some "gibberish" sort of text. Sometimes the page doesn't load at all.

This seems to occur only on Macs and more often on Macs that are running Netscape Communicator 4.0. We have seen it happen on Macs with Netscape Navigator 3.01, but less frequently. According to the folks at Netscape, this is a Java-related problem, and we are told they are working to correct it.

To remedy this, let the page load all the way until it is "done." Then, click the "reload" button on your browser. The page should now load properly. If this doesn't work, try clicking the "back" button to return to the previous page, and click on the page link again. The page should now appear as it was intended. If not, repeat either process until it loads properly. Remember, make sure you let the page load until it says "document done."

Some of the interactive Flash graphics "flash" when you click on them.

No, this wasn't the intention of the "Flash" developers. Again, this problem is seen only with those using Macs with Netscape Communicator 4.0. The people at Macromedia are aware of this and the previous problem and are working on remedying it. Meantime, the "flash" stays. You could use Netscape Navigator 3.01 if it really bothers you, but we don't believe it's too distracting.

Sometimes the links just won't work

Though this happens rarely, this seems to happen after you've been navigating thorough the site for an extended period of time (an hour or more, perhaps). If you experience this problem, go ahead and quit Netscape (or Explorer), and start it up again. These problems should disappear. You may want to bookmark where you were so you can find your place easily when you return.

Your computer crashes or freezes when accessing
the pages

If you experience any crashes or freezes, please go directly to the Macromedia Flash Tech Support site. They have many tech notes addressing this problem (check out Tech Note #12116 or search on the keyword "crash") Usually, it's a memory problem, but they may have some more tips and ideas for you to try.
